April 2021 – When, in October 2020, the second wave of Coronavirus began to make itself felt forcefully, imposing, once again, the closure of many businesses, among which beauty centers and hairdressers, it was inevitable to give up some beauty appointments, which until recently had been taken for granted. Each of us was forced to review our agenda, postponing restructuring masks and anti-aging sessions and settling for home skincare and washes.
It is precisely from the desire to make up for this lack that is where the idea behind it was born Offtopic, first all-Italian startup that sells pure silk products, both on your own E-commerce that of Amazon. How Offtopic was born, a novelty in the Italian market
“The intuition came to us during the first lockdown, after some conversations with acquaintances of ours who complained about the impossibility of going to the hairdresser or beautician. Realizing that it was a real problem, we started thinking about solutions that meet people's aesthetic needs. In Italy, a reality of this type did not yet exist, so we took the opportunity to to bring to our country a trend that already exists in America and Australia", declares Mauro Piras, already founder of another startup, Nowave, which sells non-prescription blue light blocking glasses.
Skin and hair well-being and attention to the environment
Recommended by dermatologists and beauty experts, the set, unlike cotton, satin and satin, is a completely natural and thermo-regulating material, whose beneficial effects su skin and hair make it a perfect ally against frizz , dryness of the skin.

Furthermore, thanks to its intrinsic lightness and its smooth, non-absorbent surface, the Offtopic silk guarantees shine and hydration during the night, because, unlike other fabrics, it does not absorb the natural moisture of the skin and moisturizing lotions. In particular, the sericin, One of the main silk proteins, is able to maintain the skin's hydration, preventing the formation of small sleep lines.
“We spend a third of our lives sleeping,” says Mauro Piras, “so it is fundamental taking care of our body even at night. Joining a design with soft and clean shapes and quality and environmentally friendly materials we brought this collection to life Oeko-Tex tested, free from harmful substances and environmentally friendly. Furthermore, all packaging is made of recycled and recyclable cardboard with which we contribute to the tree planting in our Planet through the organization One Tree Planted which we are pleased to support”.
Thanks to the purchase of cardboard boxes, in fact, it is possible contribute to tree planting around the world, the number of which varies depending on the type of packaging and quantity. Up to now, Offtopic has planted over 15 trees in the Amazon Rainforest, the Lung of the Planet.
Achieved and future goals
Just over six months after its foundation, Offtopic has reached 2000 customers throughout Italy and, for the future, the goal is to achieve quota 10.000 by the end of 2021, establishing itself even more on the Italian market and also turning its gaze beyond national borders.
“We are thinking of creating a physical channel with our customers, through hairdressers and beauty centres, because we believe that the future of the market is omnichannel, halfway between online and offline, even if these two modalities are often considered antagonistic”, concludes Mauro Piras.
